WORCESTER Wolves have signed seven-foot Australian/ British centre Justin Brown. The player has a pedigree that includes a championship four-year NCAA Division One career for University of Connecticut Huskies.
Brown has also played seasons in Snaidero, of Italy, NBA Reebok Rocky Mountain Revue (Dallas Mavericks), California Summer Pro League (Dallas Mavericks), ALBA Berlin, of Germany, Liaining Panpan Hunters, of China, and, for the past two seasons, he has played for the NBL’s Perth Wildcats and Brisbane Bullets.
Brown has also been in the Australian ‘Boomers’ national team programme on three occasions. The big man’s career and BBL potential did not go unnoticed during Worcester Wolves head coach Skouson Harker’s summer recruiting.
He explained: “Justin has been involved in some very high level basketball in his career. We are confident that he can bring his experience and leadership to our club. “I think Justin has his best basketball ahead of him and I am excited that he will be in a Wolves’ vest this season.
“He will bring a real inside presence for us this year and I know our point-guard Will Funn is already creating for Justin in his mind’s eye!”
Wolves were in need of some inside defensive presence last season as they scored freely, but at times had trouble defending.
“This season the club hopes Brown will provide some much-needed height to defend the interior. Wolves’ chairman Roger Clarke said: “We are delighted to have Justin on board. I like to see big guys banging about under the basket. Justin will be the back-bone of our frontcourt, on offence, but more importantly he will also be our last line of defence.”
Wolves add Brown to American point-guard Funn, British guard Andrew Wallace and player/head coach Harker. Worcester will announce further signings shortly.
Wolves’ season tips off with a friendly at Plymouth Raiders on Saturday, September 14.
Their first BBL home game is on Saturday, October 4 against Scottish Rocks.
